Niger Refuses to Hand Over Saadi Gaddafi to Libyan Rebels Niger has no intention whatsoever of extraditing Saadi Gaddafi, son of Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi, Nigerien PM Brigi Rafini.
Rafini said in France his government will not hand the 38-year-old third son of Gaddafi to the government of the Libyan rebels, the Transitional National Council, as cited by AGI.
"In order to extradite him, we need to be certain that he will receive just treatment and the right of just defense. Are these conditions met now? No," the Nigerien PM summarized the position of his country.
Earlier on Thursday, Interpol released a Red Notice for Al-Saadi Gaddafi, who fled to Niger two weeks ago. He is accused of corruption and armed intimidation.
Saadi Gaddafi is wanted by Interpol for crimes he allegedly committed when he served as head of the Libyan football federation. He is said to have misappropriated property and engaged in "armed intimidation".
While the red notice is not an international arrest warrant, it does request provisional arrest. Earlier this month Red Notices were issued for Gaddafi, his son Saif Al-Islam and former military intelligence chief Abdullah Sanussi.
